OLD EALONIANS ASSOCIATION

NEWS

In Memorium– Peter Alan Adcock  11th May 1943 to 7th  November 2024

We are saddened to tell you that Peter Adcock, a former Chairman of the Old Ealonians for nine years, has died.  The Association was represented at his funeral by two of his contemporaries at Ealing Grammar School from 1954 to 1961, David Stoker and David Slade, accompanied by their wives.

Peter was raised in Brentford and attended primary school there with David Stoker.  At Ealing Grammar  School he was assigned to Form One and then went into the Classical stream and then into Sixth Arts.

After leaving Ealing Grammar School,  Peter trained as a surveyor and worked for seventeen years for Ealing Borough in town planning and building control until 1979 before setting up his own practice, from which he retired in 1996.

Peter leaves his wife Jennifer, who he met at a party in 1965.  He asked her to dance and that was that – they went to see the film “Darling” the next Saturday, got engaged the next year and married in 1967.

Jennifer has a much younger brother and cousin and Peter was very actively involved in their formative years earning their respect which was movingly acknowledged in eulogies by them at his funeral service.

A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley,  and a guitarist, Peter played in a band called The Renegades who one night performed in a pub sharing the stage with another up and coming band called “The Rolling Stones.”  For Peter, studies and exams took priority !  No doubt he often wondered what other future might have presented itself!

Peter and Jennifer were great fans of the ballet, going regularly to Covent Garden.  They also frequently went walking with their dog in many of London’s parks. When the Harry Potter books came out, Peter took on the challenge of reading the Latin version of “Philosophers Stone”( Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis), translating for Jennifer.  Jeff Saunders (for those who remember him) would have been very proud.

In 2007, he and Jennifer moved to Norfolk and Peter joined two band groups – “Senior Moments” and “Muddy Broads Blues Band” and band members and their wives would meet up regularly for a meal before each performance.  It became a time of great friendship and shared love of music.

He was a lifelong Brentford football supporter, having first seen them with his mother at the age of five in 1948. Even moving to Norwich did not change his allegiance and he thoroughly enjoyed Brentford’s rise through the league tables.

Peter and Jennifer attended all the reunions of his year group at Ealing for many years until, sadly, he developed Parkinson’s Disease which gradually progressed and restricted his ability to travel.

He died peacefully in the Norfolk and Norwich hospital on November 7th with Jennifer at his bedside.

Martin wrote from his home in the Carribean, to say that he had come across an old School Calendar from 1962.  His photos may evoke some memories.

From Matthew Lines - His Son

It appears that Harold was a keen scrambler, as shown in the following photo.

Perhaps this line of interest will prompt a recollection from someone who knew or heard of Harold.
