Hello and thank you for looking at our website
The Old Ealonians’ Association was first established in 1923 by some of the original alumni of the School which was founded in 1913. The Association has had a chequered history and even became moribund in the 1960’s However, it was revived in the early 1970’s and since then has continued to provide a vehicle for Old Ealonians to maintain contact with fellow Old Boys and to meet for social gatherings at various times during the year.
Two newsletters are published annually which are sent to all members wherever they live in the world, either electronically or as a hard copy. (Copies of some of our recent newsletters are available elsewhere on this website.. JH Ed)
In normal circumstances, we hold two regular meetings each year; the Annual General Meeting in March or April which is held at the school and when we usually have a guest speaker, and an Annual Lunch which in recent years has been held in the Ethorpe Hotel, in Gerrards Cross. (We will resume these meetings just as soon as the present, Covid, crisis permits. In the meantime, we are looking into arranging an on line AGM, using Zoom. JH Ed)
Wives and partners are welcome at all the events organised by the Association and, as Old Boys tend to live in the Home Counties, most of the events organised have been to a diverse selection of places in and around London. For example in recent years we have visited Fullers Griffin Brewery at Chiswick, Twickenham Rugby Stadium, London Wetland Centre at Barnes, Eton Wick Motor Museum and Denham Aerodrome and Ascot Racecourse, to name a few.
The newsletter, mentioned previously, is obviously the main method of communication as it enables members to be informed of what has been happening and provides news of other OEs around the world. Sadly, by publishing obituaries, we mark the deaths of colleagues and retired teachers who have been fondly remembered.
Although membership is open to students who have studied at the West London College which occupies the site of the old School, most of the current members were pupils when it was a grammar or high school.
I have served on the committee in various positions since it was re-
New members are always welcome and membership costs only £5 a year. Our Treasurer, Colin Miell, will be very pleased to explain how you can pay your subscription.
Contact details are given elsewhere on this site, should you wish to join the Association or wish to contribute to our newsletters.
